State has experienced job growth in 12 of the past 13 months
Texas Insider Report: AUSTINTexas Texas employers expanded their payrolls in April with the addition of 8300 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs. The state has added jobs in 12 of the last 13 months.
Texas employers added 189600 jobs over the past year creating opportunities for workers in a range of industries" said Texas Workforce Commissioner (TWC) Chairman Andres Alcantar. Texas offers many competitive advantages to employers who do business in Texas including a highly skilled workforce."
Texas seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased to 4.4 percent in April up slightly from 4.3 percent in March and remained below the national average of 5.0 percent.
Over the month private employers added more than 8000 jobs strengthening the Texas labor market" said TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Ruth R. Hughs. The fact that our state has added jobs for 12 of the last 13 months is a credit to the diversity and resilience of employers in Texas."
Employment in the Education and Health Services industry was up in April with the addition of 10900 jobs. Solid growth also continued in Professional and Business Services which added 6600 jobs over the month and recorded a 1.9 percent annual growth rate.

The Amarillo Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) recorded the months lowest unemployment rate among Texas MSAs with a non-seasonally adjusted rate of 2.7 percent followed by the Austin-Round Rock and Lubbock MSAs with rates of 2.9 and 3.0 percent respectively in April.
