Texas Alliance for Life Backs State Sen. Carona in Dist. 16 Challenge

John-CaronaTexas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – (Dallas, TX) — Texas Alliance for Life PAC proudly announced its endorsement of Texas State Senator John Carona for re-election in District 16, which includes most of North Dallas County. Sen. Carona is up for re-election to the State Senate in 2014.

“We are pleased to endorse John Carona for Texas Senate”, said Joe Pojman, Ph.D., executive director of Texas Alliance for Life PAC. “He has consistently voted to defend innocent unborn babies and their mothers from the tragedy of abortion dozens of times. From requiring parental notification and consent for abortions on minor girls, to defunding Planned Parenthood by shifting public funds to more worthy providers, to promoting infant adoption as an alternative to abortion, John Carona has always voted pro-life. We are grateful to Dallas voters for sending Senator Carona to the Capitol in Austin, and we urge voters to vote for him again.”

During his tenure in the Texas Senate, Senator Carona has supported the following measures that have all become law:

  • Parental Notification for Abortions on Minor Girls (1999).
  • Woman’s Right to Know Act (informed consent for abortion) (2003).
  • Prenatal Protection Act (personhood of the unborn child in criminal and civil law) (2003).
  • Parental Consent for Abortions on Minor Girls (2005).
  • Ban on Abortions after Six Months (2005).
  • Funding for Alternatives to Abortion (2005-2013).
  • Funding for Adult (not Embryonic) Stem Cell Treatments (2007-2013).
  • Sonogram Law, including the requirement that doctors must consult with patients 24 hours before the abortion (2011).
  • Defunding Planned Parenthood $29 of $31 Million per Year (2011-2013).
  • Reporting Stem Cell Research by Public Universities (2013).
  • Authorization of the “Choose Life” Specialty License Plate to Promote Infant Adoption (2011).
  • Ban on Abortions after Five Months and Increased Abortion Facility Safety Regulations (HB 2) (2013).

Especially noteworthy is the fact that Sen. Carona authored SB 257, the 2011 bill to authorize the creation of the “Choose Life” specialty license plate to promote infant adoption as a compassionate alternative to abortion. This highly successful plate has raised nearly $50,000, which has been given as grants to more than a dozen non-profit agencies throughout the state promoting adoption. “Passage of this bill was surprisingly difficult. It did not pass for many years until Senator Carona’s experience and leadership in the Senate made it a reality,” added Pojman.

First elected to the Texas Legislature in 1990, Senator John Carona is now in his sixth term in the Texas Senate, representing District 16 in Dallas County since 1997.
