Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas The Office of the Texas Attorney General is observing National Crime Victims Rights week which runs from April 19-25 in collaboration with communities statewide. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton released the following statement:
This week marks an opportunity to bring a voice to crime victims and honor our nations progress in advancing their rights. No person should fall victim to violent crime but our office stands ready to help individuals and their families in their time of need. The Texas Attorney Generals Office will continue working to protect and empower victims by providing vital tools to assist in the healing process.
This years theme Engaging Communities. Empowering Victims. emphasizes the role of the entire community in supporting and empowering victims of crime. This year marks the 31st anniversary of championing support and services for crime victims through the federal Victims of Crime Act.
The Office of the Attorney General serves victims of crime by administering the Crime Victims Compensation Program which provides financial reimbursement of expenses associated with physical financial and emotional trauma in the aftermath of a violent crime. In addition victim service-related grants and contracts administered by the Office of the Attorney General fund a broad range of services including domestic violence shelters rape crisis centers hotlines victim advocacy education and assistance with CVC.
The Office of the Attorney General will commemorate the week with the following event:
