DALLAS TX: A second oil disaster is upon us. The economic and environmental impact of the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico may take years to fully assess but what is abundantly clear is that the decision by the Obama Administration to halt deepwater drilling will only make things worse.
The drilling moratorium will put thousands of Texans out of work harm the national economy and eventually lead to higher gas prices. Many industry officials also indicate they will be forced to drill overseas. The US offshore industry provides 30 of our oil production and is the second largest source of revenue to the government at $6 billion per year. A loss of offshore drilling will make the U.S. even more dependent on foreign sources of energy.
On Saturday morning several Texas Congressmen will join with local businessmen to urge the President to reverse his decision. They will explain the true cost of this moratorium to those inside and outside the energy industry. It will affect everyone from those who pump and refine the oil to the people who make the tools those workers use but the economy-killing effects dont stop there. Rising gas prices caused by this decision will hurt anyone who gets behind the wheel.
