At Fallen Peace Officer Memorial Service

AUSTIN – Texas First Lady Anita Perry today honored Texas peace officers killed in the line of duty during the past year at the Texas Peace Officers Memorial Service. The annual service which took place at the Department of Public Safety Training Academy in Austin also honored the family members and loved ones of those fallen officers.

During the memorial service 14 men and women were honored and a proclamation from Gov. Rick Perry was read aloud. The Governor proclaimed May 15th Texas Peace Officers Memorial Day in Texas and declared the week Texas Law Enforcement Week.
“Texans depend on our peace officers to provide safety on our highways in our communities and throughout our state” the First Lady said. “These elite men and women are protectors of Texas citizens and theirs is a commitment made with deep devotion and loyalty.”
The names of the 14 officers will be inscribed in the moment at the Texas Department of Public Safety Training Academy which is dedicated to the memory of those who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty to protect the lives property rights and privileges of all the people of Texas. As part of the service Stephanie Holmes wife of deceased Trooper Todd Dylan Holmes laid a wreath at the memorial monument.
“Not only do we honor the 14 officers who have passed from this earth we also honor those who continue to serve in their place” Perry said. “Those officers serve with courage and conviction in memory of the names we read today and continue to protect their beloved Texas.”
