Gov. Rick Perry signs House Bill 5 into law:
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas House Bill 5 makes our accountability system more reasonable while preserving rigor and I am pleased that it will now become law. The goal of education is not to teach children how to pass a test but to prepare them for life. At the same time the goal of every teacher is to develop in students a lifelong love of learning.
I want to thank Chairman Aycock and all the Members of the House for their leadership on this issue throughout the session. I also want to thank the parents educators and business leaders who worked with us to pass these reforms and improve public education in Texas.
