Texas Job-Training: Cedar Valley College Partners With Solar Turbines Inc.

width=71Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Workers get the specialized training they need and the communities benefit from a more highly skilled workforce" said TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Ronny Congleton. Cedar Valley College has partnered with Solar Turbines Inc. to provide a $367543 job training Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The grant will be used to custom train 461 incumbent workers at Solar Turbines DeSoto and Mabank plants in order to provide advanced manufacturing skills for employees achieve better product execution increase production reduce inefficiencies and improve communication. Those trained will include overhaul technicians refurbishment technicians and engineers. Upon completion of training the workers will earn an average hourly wage of $30.36. Our Skills Development Fund grants serve everyone well" Congleton said. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2010 Skills Development Fund grants created or width=95upgraded 26718 jobs which paid an average hourly wage of $26.07. These grants assisted 207 Texas employers with their customized training needs. The Legislature appropriated $90 million to the Skills Development Fund for the 2010-11 biennium.
