Chairman Michael Williams on Obama administrations devastating recommendations that will effectively shut down oil & gas drilling in West Texas. width=68Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Michael Williams Republican candidate for U.S. Senate & former Chairman of the Texas Railroad Commission the agency that oversees the states vital oil and gas industry today criticized the Obama administration for siding with a common lizard over Texas jobs and American energy. This federal government is completely out of control in yet another arena. If the Obama administration goes through with their plans to add the Dunes Sagebrush Lizard to the endangered species list the result will be higher gasoline prices and untold harm to the Texas economy in the states premier industry: oil and natural gas production.  Also it will mean the destruction of thousands of jobs and even greater dependence on foreign oil" said Williams. While Americans paying $4.00 for gas at the pump these sort of actions are the exact opposite of the policies we need right now.  Americans want more American energy now not more Brazilian energy." The Permian Basin in West Texas is currently the largest oil play in the United States today producing more than 268 million barrels of oil in 2010.  At the current price of $112 per barrel thats more than $30 billion worth of oil or 74 of Texas production.  And thats just for the crude not accounting for the tens of thousands of jobs and billions of dollars to our economy related to oil and gas production including oilfield service pipelines and other industries. I will go to Washington to fight for Texas sovereignty Texas jobs and our own American energy. Texans need a strong voice in Washington who can stand up to President Obama and his bureaucrats run amok Williams continued. As a uniquely qualified Texas energy expert from the Permian Basin region Chairman Williams is available for media interviews on the job-killing and gas price-hiking impact of the potential decision to name a common lizard to the endangered species list.
