From State Representative Aaron Pena

Please join me for a special ceremony on May 18 2010 in Edinburg where our Texas Governor will present the family of Pedro Cano with the Texas Legislative Medal of Honor.
The event will take place at the Edinburg City Auditorium located behind the new city hall. It begins at 2:30 p.m. with entertainment provided by school children from Edinburg CISD. Pedro Cano is a true American hero whose story must not be forgotten but shared with the world.
I look forward to seeing you there.

The Texas Legislative Medal of Honor was posthumously conferred to Pedro Cano by passage of HCR 5 authored by State Representative Aaron Pea.
The Texas Legislative Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration that may be awarded by the State of Texas. It is designated by a concurrent resolution of the Legislature. It is awarded to a member of the state or federal military forces who voluntarily performs a deed of personal bravery or self-sacrifice involving risk of life that is so conspicuous as to clearly distinguish the person for gallantry and intrepidity.
Pedro Cano born June 19 1920 served in the US Army during WWII. He received two silver stars the purple heart and the Distinguished Service Cross our nations second highest military honor for his heroism in battle. After the war Cano returned to Edinburg where he started a family. He was killed in a car accident in 1952.
