Texas Insider Report: CAMP MABRY AUSTIN Texas On Saturday September 10th members of the
Texas Military Forces will honor the 10th anniversary of the September 11 2001 attacks hosting both an F-16 dedication and a ribbon cutting ceremony for the 9-11 and Beyond Exhibit.
With events scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. at Camp Mabry members of the Texas Air National Guard will dedicate a new F-16 fighter jet display composed of one of the F-16 jets that escorted Air Force One throughout the nation on September 11 2001. In addition the Texas Military Forces is pleased to announce that the pilot Lt. Col. Rolando Aguilar who flew the jet that day will be present for the ceremony.
Deploying more than 32000 Soldiers and Airmen to Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001 as part of the Global War on Terror the exhibit titled 9-11 and Beyond: The Texas National Guard in the War on Terror" will commemorate the role of the Texas Military Forces in the Global War on Terror following the attacks on September 11 2011. Components of the exhibit will include both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom maps a list of the major Texas Military Forces deployments a timeline featuring The Road to 9-11 interactive audio/visual presentations as well as photo panels and other items that help tell the story of the Global War on Terror.
Representatives from the City of Austin Austin Police Department Austin Fire Department and other first responders will be present for the ceremony and provide the public an opportunity to visit with them. Representatives from various state and local government offices are also expected to be in attendance.
Following the 9-11 and Beyond Exhibit grand opening the Texas Military Forces Museum will remain open until 5 p.m. on both Saturday September 11th and Sunday September 12th. The F-16 will remain a permanent display on the parade grounds and open to all Camp Mabry visitors.
Both ceremonies are free to the public with visitors only required to show an I.D. at the gate.
