Texas Monthly Receives National Magazine Award for General Excellence

Eighteen Nominations Received Over Past Ten Years width=120Austin TexasApril 30 2009The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) and Columbia University announced that TEXAS MONTHLY has won a National Magazine Award in the category of General Excellence. This is the tenth National Magazine Award for the magazine which over its 36-year history has been nominated 54 times 18 nominations over the past ten years. The General Excellence Award recognizes the effectiveness with which writing reporting editing design and photography work together to command readers attention and fulfill the magazines unique editorial mission. For this category TEXAS MONTHLY submitted the May November and December 2008 issues. Other magazines nominated in the General Excellence category were the Atlantic Backpacker New York and W. TEXAS MONTHLY has been nominated for General Excellence eight of the past ten years. The National Magazine Awards established in 1966 by ASME are administered by the Graduate School of Journalism of Columbia University and sponsored by ASME. The awards are widely considered to be the magazine industrys most prestigious recognition equivalent to the newspaper industrys Pulitzer Prize. Founded in 1973 by Michael R. Levy TEXAS MONTHLY has a circulation of 300000 and is read by more than 2.5 million people each monthone out of every eight Texas adults.
