AFP Foundation Lauds Results of Competitive Electricity Study

width=65width=250AUSTIN – Americans for Prosperity Foundation today lauded the results of a study that ranks Texas as the top state in the U.S. in competitive electric choice.   The studies titled Annual Baseline Assessment of Choice in Canada and the United States (ABACCUS) addresses the residential market separately from the commercial and industrial markets.

“Americans for Prosperity knows that consumers win when they are given choices in the marketplace” said AFPF-Texas Director Peggy Venable.  “This study confirms the benefits of consumer choice.”

The ABACCUS study gauges progress in the implementation of commercial and retail electricity choice. The study ranked the residential and commercial/industrial competitive electricity markets in Texas first in North America and named them “excellent.”

“The results of the ABACCUS study show what we know to be true: the free market works and benefits Texas consumers as well as the Texas economy. Electricity competition has given Texans the freedom of choice in providers services and pricing of electricity among numerous power producers and retailers” said Venable.

“To meet the needs of the future the strength and viability of our electricity market is critical. We urge continued support for the competitive electricity market.”
