I want to thank TexasInsider.org for an opportunity to share my vision for Texas this upcoming legislative session.
When I was elected Speaker of a deeply divided Texas House of Representatives I knew voters wanted a true conservative leading the chamber.
That is why when faced with tough choices on the state budget I insisted we could meet the challenge without raising taxes. And we did.

When the federal government took the outrageous step of suing a state Arizona to stop a new tough anti-illegal law I joined with our Texas Attorney General and stood-up for states rights. The same is true of Obamacare. The Attorney General and I immediately began fighting this costly and wrong-minded intrusion on our right to make our own decisions about our health care. Texas needs a conservative leader in the House and that is why I am running for re-election as Speaker. I am proud to have an supermajority of Republican members who have pledged to support my campaign. With an historic 99 Republican members elected this November and with daunting budget shortfall of at least $20 billion Texas needs more than ever an experienced conservative Speaker of the House who will fight against those forces who think the only answer is increasing your taxes. There will be no greater challenge this upcoming Session than addressing the budget. I have faced this before and know how to face it again. I am already
working with Governor Perry and Lt. Governor Dewhurst to cut agency budgets in preparation for our next budget.
More than ever we need someone leading the House who can bring people together to make the right choices.
