Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Comptroller Susan Combs reminds Texas families to enroll their children in the Texas Tuition Promise Fund® and avoid future increases in tuition and required fees at Texas public colleges and universities. The current enrollment period for the state’s prepaid college tuition program ends Feb. 28.
The Texas Tuition Promise Fund allows participants to lock in the cost of undergraduate tuition and required fees at Texas public colleges and universities based on current prices.
“The future cost of children’s college education can weigh heavily on families as they set their budgets,” Combs said. “Fortunately parents can ease concerns about those costs by locking in prices through the Promise Fund. The prepaid tuition program gives families payment options as well as flexibility in choosing how much prepaid tuition they want to buy, which helps them set aside money to fit into their budgets.”
Under the plan, families can prepay tuition and required fees for a four-year degree, two years of community college or just a few semesters at Texas public colleges and universities by purchasing tuition units.
Enrollment in the program at 2013-14 prices will close Feb. 28. This deadline extends to July 31 for children younger than 1. The next annual enrollment period begins Sept. 1, with new contract prices based on Texas public college costs for the 2014-15 academic year.
