Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Texas Comptroller Susan Combs announced that that the current annual enrollment period for the Texas Tuition Promise Fund® the states prepaid college tuition program ends on February 28. Families still have time to lock in costs at Texas public colleges and universities at todays prices and avoid future increases in tuition and required fees.
In 2008 the Legislature passed House Bill 3900 to establish the Texas Tuition Promise Fund® which creates new savings options to help families pay for higher education. Under this plan families can prepay tuition and required fees for a four-year degree two years of community college or just a few semesters at Texas public colleges and universities by purchasing tuition units. This program gives parents more certainty about the cost of college education and allows parents to plan for their childrens future higher education needs.
Enrollment in the program at 2012-13 prices will close Feb. 28. This deadline extends to July 31 for children younger than 1. The next annual enrollment period begins Sept. 1 with new contract prices based on Texas public college costs for the 2013-14 academic year.
