Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas On Thursday May 19 at the Texas PTA main office Texas PTA President Sharon Goldblatt and representatives from Local PTAs in the Austin area will host a press conference at 2:30 PM.
Texas PTA leadership representing more than half a million members hits the road this week as a visible reminder to Governor Perry that decisions made in Austin affect students and families in every community statewide. The close of the legislative session is near and cuts to public education will impact all students so Texas PTAs top leaders will be crisscrossing the state urging their members educators and concerned citizens to contact Governor Perry with a strong message Fund our Future!"
During each stop Texas PTA will call on Governor Perry to untie the hands of legislators to secure additional funding and authorize the use of the Rainy Day Fund. Governor Perry must demonstrate the necessary leadership by publicly supporting the use of these alternate revenue sources.
This is not just about this biennium" said Texas PTA President Sharon Goldblatt but more about the future of our Texas economy which is driven by an educated workforce. The time has come to put politics aside and urge the governor to do what the children of Texas need him to do ensure a quality education for all."
