Representative Strama instrumental in passing laws to protect the children of Texas
Texas Insider Report: Austin TX- Today at 9:00 am at his office members of Texas PTA will present Representative Mark Strama with a certificate naming him to PTAs Legislative Honor Roll for his work during the 82
nd session of the Texas Legislature.
In October 2009 the Texas PTA Legislative Action Committee created the Texas Legislative Honor Roll to recognize elected or appointed officials at the state level who supported the Texas PTA legislative agenda. Criteria for selection included:
- An elected or appointed official at the state level
- Strong advocate for childrens issues
- Supporter of legislation or actions that benefit children and youth
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to one or more priorities on Texas PTAs legislative agenda
Representative Strama (D) Austin serves on the House Committee on Public Education and the House Committee on Energy Resources. Representative Strama has been a friend to Texas PTA and to the children and youth of Texas since becoming a state representative. This session Representative Strama worked with Texas PTA and other legislators and stakeholders to craft a consensus bill to address bullying in order to help school districts more effectively deal with this practice that can have such a devastating effect on youth. His work resulted in a consensus piece of legislation that passed the Texas Legislature and became law in September.

We are fortunate to have such a passionate advocate for children youth and public schools in the Texas Legislature. Texas PTA applauds his efforts on behalf of Texas children.
Individuals recognized for the Texas PTA Honor Roll should demonstrate initiative to enhance the quality of life for children and youth improve the quality of education for all children and youth strengthen families improve child safety standards show support for children youth families and PTA-related positions and lend support to a current Texas PTA legislative priority.
