Competition is Watt Matters
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Consumer choice provides lower prices & more alternatives for consumers in every state that has embraced free market competition" said Peggy Venable Director of Americans for Prosperity-Texas. Texas vibrant electricity market beats all others when it comes to residential & commercial energy competition in the United States & Canada.
It is no coincidence that Texas is once again rated as having the best competitive electricity market. Its not because of a top-down regulatory regime but because our economic policies in Texas allow the free market to work."
Texas consumers continue to benefit from a competitive electricity market" said Venable of
Americans for Prosperity-Texas.
A study released this week by the Distributed Energy Financial Group reveals that for the 4th year in a row Texas ranks No. 1 in residential electricity competition and No. 1 for the 3rd year in a row in commercial energy competition.
The Annual Baseline Assessment of Choice in Canada and the United States (ABACCUS) report evaluates the effectiveness of retail choice in the electricity industry.
The report shows states that have vibrant energy markets experience rapid growth in renewable generation. Texas also leads the nation in wind turbine capacity and wind energy production.
Consumers like having choices and they take advantage of those opportunities in choosing their electricity providers" Venable said.
Thanks to conservative leadership in the Texas Legislature that support free-market policies we have an electricity market that provides a range of choices and prices to fit consumers needs and consumers have responded."
Consumers are the beneficiaries of a vibrant electricity marketplace according to the new study. Texas consumers have more than 250 electricity products to

choose from and four out of five of them have exercised their ability to choose.
Unfortunately not all Texans choose their electricity providers" said Venable. Those who live in municipally-owned utility regions or in co-ops cant choose other providers until the cities and co-op boards decide to allow competition it could be a freezing cold August day in Texas before that happens."
The Lone Star State has been
ranked No. 1 in residential and commercial electricity restructuring and benefits derived to residential and commercial consumers.
We in Texas are proud to be leading the way" Venable said.
