The Texas State Rifle Association (TSRA) has presented the Doc Brown Legislator of the Year Award to Senator Jeff Wentworth for his Castle Doctrine bill. He received the award at the association’s annual banquet on Saturday March 1 at the Hampton Suites Convention Center in Mesquite.
Senator Wentworth authored the Castle Doctrine bill. It protects the right of self defense at home in the workplace and in vehicles by allowing Texans to use whatever force they deem necessary to defend themselves. The Castle Doctrine bill was the first bill signed by the governor during the 2007 legislative session.
“Senator Wentworth has always been accessible to TSRA and he is always willing to listen” said Alice Tripp TSRA legislative director. “He went above and beyond the call of duty on the Castle Doctrine bill. He polled his constituency talked to community groups about the bill and just made it all happen. Presenting him this award is a joy” said Alice Tripp TSRA legislative director at the banquet.
The Doc Brown award is named for Doctor James T. Brown who served as TSRA legislative director for more than 25 years. The award which is presented to legislators who strongly support Second Amendment issues was created after he retired.
“I am honored to be singled out for this prestigious Doc Brown Award” said Senator Wentworth. “TSRA works very effectively on Second Amendment issues and I was happy to have their strong support in the passage of this important legislation that puts the law clearly on the side of law abiding Texans and not the bad guys.”
TSRA is affiliated with the National Rifle Association (NRA) but it is not a chapter. It is a stand-alone organization with more than 37000 members in Texas.
Wentworth is a Life Member of the NRA and a Benefactor Member of TSRA.
David Keene NRA’s second vice president was the keynote speaker at Saturday night’s banquet.
