The Texas Bipartisan Justice Committee Announces its Support of Jeff Brown For Place 6 in Republican Primary
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Bipartisan Justice Committee, one of the oldest groups that evaluate and endorse judicial candidates in Texas, has endorsed Texas Supreme Court Justice Jeff Brown in the March 4th Republican Primary with the following statement: “Justice Brown first came to our attention as a District Judge in Houston. We endorsed him when he ran for and won a seat on the 14th Court of Appeals. He has an impressive record of service to our State and Nation. We are proud to once again endorse Jeff Brown.”
In response to the endorsement, Justice Brown said: “I’m honored to accept the endorsement of the Texas Bipartisan Justice Committee, which for years has advocated the election of fair-minded judges who believe in the rule of law.”
Jeff Brown is the son of a police officer and an Eagle Scout. He attended the University of Texas and The University of Houston School of Law. He served as a briefing attorney for then Texas Supreme Court Justice Greg Abbott. He was appointed to the Supreme Court by Governor Rick Perry and sworn in by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. He has received the endorsements of Senator John Cornyn, Former Chief Justice Tom Phillips and Former Justices Scott Brister and Dale Wainwright, the political arms of the Texas Right to Life, Texans for Lawsuit Reform, Texas Medical Association, Texas Civil Justice League, C Club of Houston, Texas Association of Realtors, Texas and Southwest Cattle Raisers and numerous other associations and conservative leaders.
In expanding on the group’s endorsement, Dr. John Coppedge of Longview said: “There could not be a starker contrast between the qualifications of Justice Brown and his opponent Joe Pool. Brown is a Board Certified attorney, Pool is not. Brown has never been reprimanded by the State Bar, Pool has (In 2011 he accepted a PUBLIC REPRIMAND for taking “positions that unnecessarily increased the costs and burdens of litigation”.) Jeff Brown has over 12 years of judicial experience. Pool has never been a judge.” One of Pool’s career highlights listed on his campaign website the last time he ran for office is that he served as General Counsel to the Dripping Springs Water Supply Corporation!—hardly qualification to serve on the highest civil court in the State.
The Texas Bipartisan Justice Committee was formed in the late 1980s to evaluate, endorse and support judges and candidates for civil courts who believe in judicial restraint. We also support judges and judicial candidates for criminal courts who recognize and protect not only the rights of criminal defendants but of the victims of crime as well.
