Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Interestingly the Texas House Licensing Committee held its first hearing to address the possibility of expanding gambling in Texas last week and almost no one seemed to notice. Except that is an organized group of Tea Party activists who issued a letter strongly against such efforts. Legislators
did seem to notice that.

Many thought the hearing uneventful. Most of the usual suspects testified for & against the bills.
What does seem significant is the degree to which the casino and racetrack folks are already fighting amongst themselves. Also there was a good deal of press around the hearing but nothing new or unheard of before.
Sen. Duncan had strong words ... about the lack of gambling support in the Senate and its lack of having a chance to pass out of even the Senate Committee he chairs State Affairs.
