Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas More than 1100 Texas middle and high school students will display their outstanding projects at the 2014 ExxonMobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) continues its commitment to the success of tomorrows workforce by co-sponsoring the event for the 13th consecutive year. The fair which is being hosted by The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) begins on Thursday March 20 and culminates with a junior division awards presentation on Saturday March 22 and a senior division awards presentation on Sunday March 23 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.
The Texas Workforce Commission is proud to be a part of this event that showcases the talent and hard work of Texas students" said TWC Chairman Andres Alcantar who will address the students at the awards ceremony. This fair encourages some of this states brightest rising stars to enhance science technology engineering and math (STEM) disciplines and gain skills that will be valuable in tomorrows workplace."

Cortlan J. Wickliff a Harvard Law School graduate and practicing attorney will deliver the keynote address to the students at both awards presentations which will run 8-9:30 p.m. on Saturday and 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Sunday. Wickliff graduated at age 19 from Rice University as the youngest person in the U.S. to earn a Bachelors of Science degree in bioengineering. He has mentored middle and high school students as well as undergraduates and started several initiatives geared toward familiarizing students with STEM disciplines and ensuring more quality candidates are attracted to STEM careers.
This science fair is a great opportunity for these exceptional students to learn from people like Cortlan Wickliff" said TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Ronny Congleton. Our hope is that these young people become inspired to continue their education in STEM and use those skills once they enter Texas workforce."
The ExxonMobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair is officially sanctioned by the Society for Science & the Public the annual host of the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Awards will be presented to students in 17 project categories in each of two divisions.
Winners from the ExxonMobil science fairs senior division will qualify for the Intel ISEF competition in Los Angeles in May and will also earn a spot at the Texas Governors Science and Technology Champions Academy a weeklong residential summer camp also sponsored by TWC which will be held this summer at the University of Houston.
