CenTex ASPA Chapter names Larry Temple Public Administrator of the Year

AUSTIN Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) Executive Director Larry Temple has been honored as the Public Administrator of the Year by the CenTex Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA).
Temple was honored recently at an ASPA-hosted public service recognition banquet and awards ceremony which honored federal state county and local government employees nationwide.

TWC Commissioner Representing the Public Andres Alcantar.
He has effectively managed a workforce system that remains a national model and is deserving of this recognition" Alcantar said.
Award recipients must be non-elected government employees and award criteria include recent public service accomplishments implementation of creative or innovative programs and participation in organizations or activities in a professional field.
As the executive director of TWC Temple oversees day-to-day operations of the agency including implementation of policies set by the Commission.
TWC has oversight of the states employment services workforce training civil rights regulation and unemployment insurance benefits and delivers these services to its 254 counties through a

network of more than 2700 TWC employees in coordination with 28 local workforce development boards.
A graduate of St. Edwards University in Austin Temple has served as president of the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) a national organization of state directors of workforce services whose mission is to coordinate local state and federal roles in workforce development.
He has been a member of the NASWA Board of Directors since 2003 having served as chairman of the Administration and Finance Committee and co-chairman of the Communications Committee.
Temple began his public-sector career in 1992 when he served as deputy director of the Mississippi Department of Human Services for five years. Temple has been with TWC since 1997.
He was named director of TWCs Office of Welfare Reform and later served as the agencys deputy executive director. His career also includes more than 20 years of private-sector management experience in energy retail and real estate development.

ASPA is the largest professional association in the field of public administration and is made up of more than 12000 practitioners teachers and students.
