The Problem is in Washington DC Not Austin Texas

By Jeff Wenworth - Republican State Senator District 25 width=78Texans are blessed.  We live in a state where opportunity beckons where imagination and hard work are rewarded where more people are moving than any of the other 49 states. Texas state government has played a pivotal role in creating this business-friendly environment by keeping taxes low minimizing intrusive government regulation and insuring a civil justice system that is fair. Texas also has no state personal income tax and is a right-to-work state with a healthy supply of potential workers. When I hear folks complain about government regulations that are crushing business theyre talking about the federal government in Washington DC not state government in Austin Texas. When I hear folks who are genuinely worried about mountainous debt that is being passed down to our children grandchildren and great grandchildren to pay theyre talking about the federal government in Washington DC not state government in Austin Texas. When I hear about uncontrolled runaway spending by government I know theyre talking about the federal government in Washington DC not state government in Austin Texas. While the federal government was printing money and borrowing from the Chinese last year your Texas state government adopted a two-year budget that was balanced -- with no tax increase -- and slashed $15 billion from the previous budget. While the U.S. Congress meets nearly all year every year your Texas Legislature meets just a little more than four months out of every two years. While U.S. Congressmen are fulltime live in the DC area and make $174000 per year your part-time Texas state citizen-legislators live at home with you and earn $7200 per year. Please remember that when you hear the word Congress think federal government.   When you hear Texas Legislature think Austin Texas.
