Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. On this day July 4th we commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. This foundational document formalized Americas path towards individual liberty and freedom and away from tyranny and oppression. We live in the greatest country in the world and must never forget the sacrifices that have been made to secure our unalienable rights of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
However the greatness of America hasnt come by resting on our laurels. Its only been through hard work ingenuity and persistence that weve maintained an exceptional nation that remains a beacon of freedom for the rest of the world. Unless we continue to fight for a government that never backs down in the defense of its citizens individual liberties we will see an erosion of the ideals that make our country great. It is the great privilege of my life to fight on your behalf in this effort.
This week I have been traveling through many of the 18 counties Im honored to represent. During my travels I met with local elected officials to talk about the ongoing recovery effort regarding recent flooding and disaster declarations. Many folks are confused about where they must register for assistance. This is why my staff and I have created a webpage that will help you in finding useful information.
As I travel the district I hear the same message over and over again: get the government out of the way. Too many small businesses and hard-working families are drowning in regulations that unelected bureaucrats create out of thin air.
This week we saw a landmark ruling against increased regulation. Im grateful for the Supreme Court ruling against the EPAs power plant regulation because they frequently ignore the drastic impact their regulations cost American taxpayers. As Justice Scalia wrote the EPA refused to consider whether the costs of its decision outweighed the benefits.
My constituents resoundingly cite their desire to reduce the over regulation of their lives and this ruling represents a positive step in that direction. This fight is far from over and Im looking forward to legislation like my
Alert Act passing so we can further reduce the regulatory state.
