The Texas Conservative Coalition conducted a Health Care Freedom Town Hall Meeting on April 10 2010 with the aim of keeping citizens informed of state plans to reject the unprecedented federal takeover of our health care. About 200 people turned out early on a Saturday to participate in the critical discussion on restoring our liberty.
This conservative caucus fought to keep the Texas Rainy Day Fund in tact when others in the legislature seemed keen to spend every last penny in the treasury for this or that much needed and worthwhile project. And its a good thing they did because in January 2011 they foresee a shortfall in tax revenues. TCC made sure we are covered.
Over the past year I have attended many political forums and have grown accustomed to hearing the same buzzwords over and over again Founding fathers blah blah …Constitution blah blah… freedom… liberty… conservative principles…" so I have to admit I am a bit jaded at this point. But this was not just another one of those.
This was a war room and here was General Greg Abbott laying out his best plan for beating back the dragon of ObamaCare. Sitting straight in his wheel chair wearing a neat suit and
yellow tie he was not at all a man who evoked deference merely out of pity. The fire of determination shone in his eyes as he explained the battle plan and I had every expectation that he could accomplish whatever it was he set out to do.
Confidence emanated from him and the people responded with standing ovations.
The panel included State Representatives:
the Health Care Legislation passed by the United States Congress and made it clear that we will fight this legislation and support Attorney General Greg Abbotts lawsuit against H.R. 3590.
At one point in the program Edmund Haislmaier of the Heritage Foundation addressed the group via internet live his face projected on the two screens on either side of the meeting room. He gave an overview of ObamaCare from a federal perspective and his report was dismal.
He described what he called the three Is of the legislation: Ideology Ignorance and Incompetence" comparing the so called plan to the analogy of trying to build a house by dumping all the materials into a field and putting skilled and unskilled labor to work without any architectural blueprint or plan.
Like I said dismal.
Other brief items of note:
result and that our best strategy would be following AG Abbotts game plan instead.
Were here today because of you" Christian said. " You are standing up and we are standing with you."
