Tony Perkins Washington Update
Yesterday as I was leaving church my phone rang. It was ABC News asking for a reaction to the report that late-term abortionist George Tiller had been shot and killed in the foyer of his church in Wichita.
I was shocked. As much as we detest and condemn the work of abortionists like George Tiller we also detest and condemn this act of vigilante violence. George Tiller was a man whom we publicly sought to stop through legal and peaceful means. We are a nation that is governed by the rule of law not by individual acts of justice.
The words of scripture could not be clearer--for anyone to intentionally murder another human being is wrong. As Christians we pray and look for the end of all violence and for the saving of souls not the taking of human life.
As I did yesterday and as FRC has on the few occasions where violence has been used against abortionists we strongly condemn the actions of this vigilante killer. I ask you to join me in praying for the Tiller family in their grief and for the nation--that we as a people might embrace life.
