Three Texas Veterans of WWII Were Honored by the American G.I. Forum of Texas

Houston KTRK-TV/DT Published: 02-23-09 width=172HOUSTON -- Three Texas veterans were honored Saturday for their service in World War II. Honored were Frank Orozco who served on the flight crew of a B26 Bomber and flew over a dozen bombing missions over Germany and Berlin. Jesse Campos a member of the 672nd Amphibious Unit and was in 8 amphibious assault landings: Saipan Tarawa New Guinea Fiji Islands Solomon Islands Gilbert Islands Okinawa and finally the Philippines. Jesse was wounded twice.   Julian Garcia served in the US Army and after receiving his pilot training flew B26 airplanes. The American GI Forum of Texas presented the awards at its board meeting in southeast Houston. Board members also discussed veterans issues which they say are especially important to promote now while the state legislature is in session.   We want to make sure all the bills and legislation that were supporting get plenty of support from our members. . . (We) will schedule visits with legislators said Gil Rodriguez Executive Director of the American GI Forum of Texas.   Among the boards main focus is health education and employment for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
