Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) is offering some advice to President Obama on the F.B.I.s investigation into Hillary Clintons private email server:
Stop talking about it.
The responsible thing for the President to do would be to say nothing particularly if he knows nothing about the content of an ongoing criminal investigation the Senates No. 2 Republican said Thursday.
His comments come after Obama told Fox News last weekend that while he hasnt been sorting through each and every aspect of this he believes the Democratic presidential front-runner would never intentionally put America in any kind of jeopardy and asserted she has not jeopardized Americas national security.
Cornyn who has repeatedly criticized the president and the White House for commenting on the investigation argued the remarks were the latest instance of the White House trying to influence the outcome of the FBIs investigation.
He said the comments were inappropriate and underscored his belief that the Department of Justice should name a special counsel to investigate Clintons use of a private email server while serving as Secretary of State.
At the very least I hope the President quits talking about a subject he knows nothing about ... and let the Justice Department do its job without feeling the pressure that apparently the White House is tempted to impose on the FBI and the Department of Justice he said.
Clinton presidential campaign has been dogged by questions about the setup and the FBIs investigation since last summer.
Republicans have also been pushing for months to get a former IT staffer who was responsible for overseeing the server to speak with them.
