TWC Welcomes New Labor Commissioner Julian Alvarez

Julian.AlvarezTexas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is pleased to welcome its new Commissioner Representing Labor Julian Alvarez of Harlingen. Commissioner Alvarez joins the threemember Commission and will represent the interests of Texas workers with respect to TWC services and ensure that their concerns are considered in all Commission actions.
I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the people of Texas as the Commissioner Representing Labor" said Commissioner Alvarez. I also welcome the opportunity to work with my fellow Commissioners to ensure that our workforce is well-trained for the existing and future opportunities that our great state has to offer."
Commissioner Alvarez serves along with fellow Commissioners: Andres Alcantar TWC Chairman and Commissioner Representing the Public; and Ruth R. Hughs Commissioner Representing Employers. Together the commissioners promote and support a workforce system that creates value and offers employers individuals and communities the opportunity to achieve and sustain economic prosperity.

Commissioner Alvarez was appointed by Governor Greg Abbott on February 22. Prior to his appointment Commissioner Alvarez served as president and CEO of the Rio Grande Valley Partnership fostering relationships and coordinating programs to advance regional economic development. Prior to that he served as a Texas regional director for the U.S. Senate. He has also served as a state trooper for the Texas Department of Public Safety and worked for Texas State Technical College as the director of college information.
 Commissioner Alvarez brings a great deal of knowledge and experience that will serve the Texas Workforce Commission and the state well." said TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Ruth R. Hughs. I look forward to serving alongside him in meeting the workforce development needs of our state."
Alvarez succeeds Ronny Congleton who retired in December 2015 and his term will expire on February 1 2017.
