U.S. Supreme Court Agrees with University of Texas Affirmative Action Policy

Leaves Fifth Circuit Ruling in Place: President Obamas Immigration Action is Unlawful paxton.shieldTexas Insider Report: AUSTIN Today the United States Supreme Court upheld the University of Texass use of racial preferences in admissions. Attorney General Ken Paxton who did not represent the University before the Supreme Court issued the following statement with respect to the Courts ruling:
Less than 10 years ago the Supreme Court said that the way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race.  Sadly the Court today has departed from that guiding principle said Attorney General Ken Paxton. The University of Texas is one of the finest educational institutions in the world. The opportunities it offers should be available to all students based on their merit not the color of their skin.

Todays decision keeps in place what we have maintained from the very start: one person even a president cannot unilaterally change the law. This is a major setback to President Obamas attempts to expand executive power and a victory for those who believe in the separation of powers and the rule of law.
