Texas shoppers can expect to save some $3 million overall in state & local sales taxes during next weekends Sales Tax Holiday during Memorial Day weekend. Its May - which means hotter weather and more energy use!
Now is the time to make sure you are using your energy as efficiently as possible by upgrading yourappliances.
Next weekends Sales Tax Holiday is patterned after the annual Sales Tax Holiday on clothing & shoes in mid-August just prior to the beginning of school schedules across Texas.
If you were not able to take advantage of last months appliance rebate program during Memorial Day weekend you have another chance to save - when Texas shoppers get a break from state and local sales and use taxes on purchases of certain energy efficient products.
The 2010 Energy Star sales tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday May 29 
and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Monday May 31 (Memorial Day).
Shoppers will pay no sales tax on selected Energy Star products and they will save even more on their future utility bills as Energy Star qualified appliances use 10-50 percent less energy and water than standard models according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said when the program was first launched.

Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday applies only to the following appliances and household equipment:
- Air conditioners priced under $6000 (room and central units)
- Clothes washers (but not clothes dryers*)
- Ceiling fans
- Dehumidifiers
- Dishwashers
- Light bulbs (incandescent and fluorescent)
- Programmable thermostats
- Refrigerators priced under $2000.
