Democrats are fighting to ensure that Texans are no longer required to pay the highest rates in the nation and are insisting that the legislation reflects a Department of Insurance that will protect consumers. Democrats are advocating for greater affordability and access to health care coverage.
We want a bill that protects consumers by requiring that before insurance companies can raise rates they must first get the approval of the Insurance Commissioner.
We want a bill that requires companies that improperly raise rates to be held accountable and be immediately required to refund the excess rates that Texans pay.
Democrats want a bill that stops insurance companies from discriminating against consumers by raising rates or denying coverage because of a Texans credit score occupation neighborhood or education level.
Democrats want insurance forms consumers can understand and policies consumers can compare against each other to ensure theyre getting the best deal.
The legislation should reform the Department of Insurance so that consumers are protected not the insurance companies theyre supposed to regulate.
