Veterans Hiring Event Set for April 23

TVCTexas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas The Texas Veterans Commission with the support of Gov. Greg Abbott is hosting a hiring fair on April 23 to increase the number of Veteran state employees as part of a new initiative to employ qualified Veterans at state agencies.  While the number of state employees in Texas has increased by more than 35000 since 2006 the percentage of the state workforce who are veterans has decreased from six percent to five percent during that period" said Gov. Greg Abbott. When hiring opportunities arise we should look to those who have served honorably defending our freedoms in order to fill necessary positions within state government. Many times these men and women have received extensive training and exhibited qualities that make them excellent candidates for state jobs." The initiative Veterans Employed by Texas (VETS) is working to increase the percentage of Veterans employed by state government. By working directly with state agencies the initiative will focus on reinforcing the relevant skills Veterans acquired while in the military and the value they bring to state agencies in Texas. Texas state agencies are in a great position to benefit from hiring Veterans and this event is the latest example of the partnership we have with other state agencies in supporting our Veterans" said Thomas Palladino Executive Director of the Texas Veterans Commission. Veterans in Texas already have government experience at the federal level and their skills make them ideal candidates to work for the great state of Texas." The VETS Hiring Event will be April 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wyndham Garden Hotel 3401 S. IH-35 Austin Texas 78741.
