Veterans Property Tax Relief Sees Final Passage

Legislation recognizes the sacrifices of those who gave all to their country.    width=71Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas This Memorial Day weekend is the perfect time to put the finishing touches on this important legislation. This bill was a priority for the veterans community and I am honored to help achieve it for them said State Senator Patrick as he & Representative Allen Fletcher  completed the Conference Committee Report on Senate Bill 516.   SB 516 guarantees the right of a surviving spouse of a 100 disabled veteran to retain the property tax relief granted to the veteran after they pass away. Currently the property tax relief granted 100 percent disabled veterans expires upon their death. This inequity fails to recognize the sacrifices made by the veterans family.   The surviving spouse goes through enough grief after losing their loved one said Representative Fletcher. They shouldnt have to worry about losing their home to taxes as well. With the passage of this legislation the surviving spouse may also move closer to family if they wish and retain a property tax credit Fletcher said.
