Veterans Speak Out for Candidate Margo in El Paso

Published: 10-15-08

width=65El Paso – In light of Joe Moody’s comments recently uncovered by the El Paso Times insulting our brave military men and women Dee Margo says the following:

“I have received many calls and e-mails from voters who found Joe Moody’s comments offensive. My opponent through his negative blogging about our Military showed his insensitivity irresponsibility and lack of experience. I personally find his comments despicable.

In a community so intertwined as Fort Bliss and El Paso it is imperative that our State Representatives know and understand the positive impact of Fort Bliss on El Paso.

The people of District 78 want and deserve a representative who has the sensitivity responsibility and experience with a proven record of getting things done for our community. El Paso and its citizens respect and honor the Military and in these times when our young men and women are in harms way it is our responsibility to show support not insult them.

I understand the sacrifices made by our soldiers and how vital Fort Bliss is to our community and I will always work to support Fort Bliss.”

What Local Veterans Are Saying:

“There is nothing funny about serving your country and there is nothing funny about losing your life while serving your country.”
- BG (Ret) Richard A. Behrenhausen

“Mr. Moody’s disparaging comment of a year ago that the military ‘…recruits you to get killed immediately…’ displays at best a lack of perspective and at worst a desire to impair our country’s military recruiting. His intemperate remarks were not appropriate for a representative of any American political party.”
- MG (Ret) James P. Maloney Former Commanding General Fort Bliss

“Moody has no sense as to what it’s like to be in the military. Comments like this are abominable! I take great umbrage in the comments made—he owes the military an apology.”
- MG (Ret) Travis N. Dyer

“It’s disappointing that anyone running for public office would have that opinion about our military who’s standing in harms way everyday to protect our freedom. Our military has performed valiantly over the past few years in a time of persistent conflict and terrorism. We need to show strong support for them now and in the future.”
- Tom Thomas Civilian Aide to the Sec. of the Army

“Considering his expressed views as stated in the article whether in jest or not it is difficult for me to assume that Joe Moody is a serious candidate in a district that is so heavily supportive to our patriots in the military!”
- Col. (Ret) James L. Hayden Distinguished Graduate West Point Regional Coordinator USMA Admissions Office

“This comment is outrageous! In a community that loves our military his comment reflects insensitivity to the commitment and sacrifice of our service members. Day in and day out we see our soldiers from Fort Bliss deploying and returning from places where they are in harms way; their service love of nation and integrity should never be questioned.”
- Gus J. Rodriguez President General of the Army Omar N. Bradley Chapter Association of the U S Army

Dee served as the Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for eight years from 1990-1998 where he was actively involved in the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process and advocated on behalf of El Paso at the Pentagon.

Recently Dee received the Omar N. Bradley 2008 Outstanding Citizen Award which recognizes the person who has most contributed to a close working relationship between Ft. Bliss and El Paso.

“Dee Margo has exemplified this ideal for many years. Dee has worked with Congress and the Pentagon to expand Ft. Bliss has supported AUSA and the Bradley Chapter for many years and he continues to support many events at Ft. Bliss which promote goodwill between the military and civilian communities.”
- Tom Thomas Civilian Aide to the Sec. of the Army
