Proposals to be reconciled for submission to voters in November

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Rep. Charles Doc Anderson the sponsor of House legislation passed last Thursday to extend property tax exemptions to the surviving spouses of disabled veterans reported today that he will also sponsor the finalized proposal in the final two weeks of House action. The 82nd session of the Texas Legislature ends on May 30th.
Texas voters have already graciously approved property tax exemptions for the homestead of veterans whose service-connected disability rating is 100 said Rep. Anderson who is Vice-Chair of the Texas Veterans Caucus.
Senate Joint Resolution 14 will ask voters to approve that same exemption for the surviving spouse upon the death of the veteran.
Rep. Anderson shepherded a similar resolution House Joint Resolution 48 through the House last week on a 145-0 vote.

At the same time the Senate was voting 31-0 on the Senate resolution authored by Senator Leticia Van de Putte chair of the Senate Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs.
I am honored to continue to work on this vital issue with Chairwoman Van de Putte said Rep. Anderson and even more honored to give these deserving veterans the peace of mind that their surviving spouse will not be literally taxed out of their home.
