Chairman Carrillo brings proven conservative leadership to energy post
AUSTIN TXFormer U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza today announced his endorsement of Chairman Victor Carrillo in his re-election to the Texas Railroad Commission.
Ive known Victor personally and professionally for many years and his proven track record of conservative leadership will continue to serve the people of Texas well. We need the breadth and depth of his experience and expertise at the helm of the Texas Railroad Commission" said Garza who served on the Railroad Commission from 1999 - 2003.
Under his leadership Texans can continue to count on Chairman Carrillo to balance our need for a strong and vibrant energy sector with our duty to preserve and protect our natural resources and ensure the publics safety" Garza added.
Garza pointed to Carrillos background in law and geosciences coupled with his experience as an elected city councilman and county judge as an invaluable background to address the complex energy regulatory matters at the Railroad Commission."
Garza the former U.S. Ambassador to Mexico was elected to the Railroad Commission in 1998 the first Hispanic Republican elected to statewide office. He
was also the first Republican elected to countywide office in south Texas when he was elected Cameron County Judge in 1988.
Chairman Carrillo was first appointed to Ambassador Garzas unexpired term in 2003 and was elected to a full six-year term in Nov. 2004.
Like Garza Carrillo was the first elected Hispanic Republican elected to county office when he was elected Taylor County Judge in 2002.
Carrillo had previously served as an elected member of the Abilene City Council.
Carrillo is currently the highest ranking Hispanic elected official in Texas.
