Waste Control Specialists LLC Announces Proposed Agreed Order

width=200DALLAS TEXAS ... March 21 2008 ... Waste Control Specialists LLC (“WCS”) announced today that it had signed a proposed Agreed Order with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (“TCEQ”) pursuant to notices of violation dated November 8 2005 and June 14 2006. WCS has agreed to pay an administrative penalty in the amount of $151200 pursuant to the proposed Agreed Order. The Executive Director of the TCEQ will submit the proposed Agreed Order to the TCEQ Commissioners for their consideration of adoption.

“Operating a safe and secure site is our primary goal at WCS” said Linda Beach Vice President and General Manager of WCS. “We have already implemented corrective actions to prevent any such occurrences in the future and we fully intend to comply with all of the terms of the proposed Agreed Order. There was no threat to the public or the environment from the actions that resulted in the notice of violation. The WCS facility in Andrews County Texas is currently licensed for the processing storage and disposal of a broad range of hazardous toxic and certain types of low-level and mixed low-level radioactive waste. WCS is a subsidiary of Valhi Inc. (NYSE: VHI). Valhi is engaged in the titanium dioxide pigments component products (security products furniture components and performance marine components) and waste management industries.
