The average familys indoor water usage is about 50 GALLONS of water per person per day. And according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) an estimated 3 of national energy consumption - equivalent to approximately 56 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) - is used for drinking water and wastewater services. To underscore the importance of water issues to Texans across the state H2O4TEXAS a public education campaign aimed at securing full implementation of the Texas Water Plan will kick-off on November 16 2009 with a two-day conference that will include some of the nations top water and energy experts.
Among the topics being discussed at the conference is the link between water and energy consumption.
Richard Bozek Director of Environmental Policy for the Edison Electric Institute will lead a discussion on the demand for water in energy production and that demands impact on our water supply as well as the role energy plays in the production of clean water for public consumption. His presentation will also address federal and state legislative and regulatory requirements for emission and effluent controls and the resulting water/energy impact.
