Wendy’s Imaginary Story

Today’s Logic Letter

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – Dear Lojiks; The Wendy Davis campaign for Texans governor is is damage control mode.  Wayne Slater, a left-of-center writer who wendy-davisappears on MSNBC, has cleared the record.  (Brietbart.com says it isn’t clear if the article is an expose or a defense.)

However, we learned from the article:

  1. She lied about her first divorce, claiming it was at 19 when it was at 21. (She may have lied about this under oath.)
  2. Her second husband paid her way through Harvard.
  3. He was Mr. Mom while she was off at school.  One of the girls was only 2 at the time.
  4. Her ex husband accused her of infidelity in the divorce proceedings.
  5. She left her husband the day after he paid the final bills for Harvard.

WendyDavisForGovAnnouncementHer response?  “My language should be tighter.”

THIS IS DR MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR DAY

A long column by Penial Joseph of Tufts celebrates his radicalism and his dislike of capitalism — as well as his goal of fighting poverty.  In response, I wrote this email to Joseph:

“Your column is interesting, but points out warts that you disguise as virtues.

Martin Luther King, Jr. is remembered as a a race-healer because that is where his historical success lies.

Questioning the economic system of capitalism was not his best idea.  Capitalism, when practiced in a society sans government-sanctioned monopolies, indeed lifts all boats and creates wealth.  It is freedom that allows this to take place.

What black people lacked in his day was freedom.

He was at his best when promoting freedom.  LBJ took up the cause of ‘poverty,’ got his program through mlk Martin Luther KingCongress and the black community has suffered mightily for it.

Happy MLK Day!”

Speaking of the poor, I note a column by economist Ray Perryman (who is left of center) that flatly states the current talking point that the unemployment benefits extension will “stimulate the economy” is rubbish.   What Dr. King accomplished to FREE people — combined with logical, sensible government allows capitalism to flourish.

When it does, we ALL benefit.

And now, Fredericksburg:

I’d say about 50 people showed up including, Miguel in Midland and Big Time AJ in Houston.  We had a contingent from Central Texas and one from West Texas, two statewide candidates (Dan Branch for Attorney General & Harvey Hilderbran for Comptroller,) and we had logic, food, music (with the wonderful talent of James Mullins), and political discussion!

Lynn Woolley T-SPAN Show 9-5-13I think we will do it again.

Thanks to all who came and to Ed Laughlin for thinking of it and putting the whole thing together!  Yes, I did sing “Take A Stand.”

On this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, celebrate freedom — and the fact he we are all equal in the sight of God.

Logically,

Lynn Woolley
