What is HB2084 all about? Its all about saying grandparents do not count anymore. Its about stripping all their rights away. And I mean all of them. In other words it guts" grandparents rights.
What will this bill do to grandchildren who are abused and neglected by their parents? Not good.
There were roughly 5000 child victims of abuse in 2008 in Tarrant county alone. If the bill is passed it will put these children in a more than vulnerable state. If their grandparents cant get access to them the state will take them. The state will take and shuffle them around in their already overloaded and inadequate system leaving the children longing for that warm and loving environment of their grandparents. What will they be told?
Grandparents are having to raise their grandchildren when their own children get involved in drugs turn to alcohol have mental illness are incarcerated. They are not turning their heads the other way. They are sacrificing their own retirement plans and some are even going back to work. As of the 2000 U.S. Census over 2.4 million in the U.S. were raising their grandchildren. 240000 of them in Texas. By the way at the same time they have been saving the taxpayers thousands and thousands of dollars.
The homeschool community is saying that they need to be protected. The abused and neglected children in the U.S. are the ones who need to be protected.
Let the homeschoolers and their in-laws settle this between and among themselves and not put these precious children at risk. The consequences will be great for the children as well as the state of Texas if this bill is passed.
My husband and I are raising our grandchildren and we know how hard it was navigating the justice system but we got custody of them. We were determined not to give up.
I have a book coming out next month Grandparents Winning Custody of Grandchildren published by Pale Horse Publishing. It is primarily for grandparents who dont know what to do and dont know where to start.
