10th Amendment Act Helps States Challenge Federal Regulations & Executive Orders
Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. Congressman John Culberson (TX-07) and Senator Roger Wicker (Miss.) today introduced the Restoring the 10th Amendment Act in both the House and Senate. The bill gives States and the American people a powerful new tool to challenge aggressive federal overreach.
President Obama pledged to use a phone and pen to push through his liberal agenda against the will of the people and thanks to his unconstitutional executive actions there is very little left in our personal lives or in the realm of original State authority that the federal government does not control said Congressman Culberson. From illegal amnesty to Obamacare to the IRS scandals - no President has shown greater disregard for individual liberty and States rights.
This bill will do more to limit the size power and cost of the federal government than anything else Congress could do he added.
I have serious concerns about how the Obama Administrations oversteps are impacting Americans personal lives and state authority said Senator Wicker who has championed this bill in every Congress since 2010. There is an urgent need for constitutional checks and balances on executive power and this bill offers states and the American people an important tool to challenge federal overreach from unlawful actions on immigration to extreme environmental rules.
The Restoring the 10th Amendment Act (H.R. 1935 and S. 1045) says any rule proposed by a federal agency or the President is subject to a constitutional challenge if State officials determine it infringes on their 10th Amendment rights. It would designate certain State government officials with special standing in court to challenge sweeping regulations issued by the federal government.
Members of Congress are entrusted with a responsibility to fight government overreach and ensure the Executive Branch is held accountable said Culberson. This bill is an important step toward restoring the Republic that our Founding Fathers fought for and that has sustained this great nation for hundreds of years.
My overriding goal is to get the federal government out of our lives out of our pockets and out of our way so that Texans can truly run Texas Culberson concluded.
Congressman John Culberson represents the Seventh District of Texas.
