Wildfire Relief Efforts: Humana Gives $50000 to Aid American Red Cross

width=138Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas In the aftermath of the Central Texas fires which killed two people destroyed 1500 homes and burned 50 square miles of land Humana announced today that The Humana Foundation will donate $50000 to the American Red Cross of Central Texas to support relief efforts responding to recent wildfires in Texas George Smith M.D. regional president of Senior Products for Humanas Southwest Region said The damage sustained by the communities and citizens Humana serves in the area is catastrophic it is a terrible natural disaster. We are committed to helping people in Central Texas recover as quickly as possible and pledge to them our ongoing support." In the face of an extended drought Texas experienced the largest number of wildfires in the states history during this year alone. To date more than 18750 wildfires have burned more than 3.6 million acres of land in Texas according to the State Firemans and Fire Marshals Association of Texas. More than 4155 structures have been destroyed including 2000 homes. The Texas AgriLife Extension Service estimated the fires have cost Texas agriculture $152.1 million through mid-September. American Red Cross of Central Texas Regional CEO Marty McKellips says Our sincere thanks go out to Humana for their generous support. This gift helps us pay for sheltering and feeding thousands of our neighbors during their time of need and to replenish our supplies to be ready for next time." The American Red Cross continues to support residents affected by the fire with safe shelters daily meals and mobile feeding services tools to clear property and search for personal items and emotional support.
