The Trump paradox.Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas It was as if two junior high school boys were on stage along with a political gadfly and one serious candidate. Remember that conservatives glommed onto Trump because they are tired of people like Boehner and Ryan dealing with Democrats. Make no mistake; I am not crying for the loss of the Status Quo but...
Nothing says the serious candidate will emerge from the pack but Senator Ted Cruz proved once and for all that he is the man so many people seem to think Donald Trump is.
For his part Trump and Florida Senator Marco Rubio engaged in seventh-grade shenanigans about the size of Trumps hands and presumably other body parts.
Video: Detroit debate. Do you see a president here?
Governor Kasich went on and on about how he was the driving force behind so many great accomplishments of government. Who knew? And heres something Kasich doesnt seem to know: the unhappy Republican base is not going to elect somebody that would make the establishment do cartwheels. After Detroit its unlikely that they will coalesce around Rubio.
That leaves Senator Ted Cruz the principled" conservative.
This is what chills me. Its the fact that the Republican base has been clamoring for a candidate that will challenge the Establishment. The base seems to want someone who will fight on the floors of both houses of Congress for conservative values.
THAT IS PRECISELY WHAT TED CRUZ HAS DONE! It is as The Donald points out why nobody likes Cruz. Nobody likes Cruz because he is unlikable; nobody likes Cruz precisely because his principles far outstrip those who dislike him.
ISNT THAT WHAT WE WANT? Sorry about the shouting. But frustration has set in.
At the Detroit debate FOXs moderators laid bare a great deal of Trumps flip-flops but Trump was able to swat them away. Those of us that pay attention saw what he did. Cruz was challenged smarmily by Megyn Kelley and he answered her questions with substance. Like a statesman would. Like Trump wouldnt.
Rush Limbaugh commented on his Friday show that Cruz seemed to be participating in a different debate. Thats what I thought too. Cruz was showing a deft command of the issues combined with a pledge to take on the GOP Establishment and remake the Republican Party without blowing it to smithereens.
Some think Trump may have already blown the Republican Party up. If so then what? At my age I hate to have to start over with another new conservative movement but Trump will have to be stopped. If he becomes president well have more Planned Parenthood and more deals with Democrats that the base will abhor.
The Trump paradox.
Remember that conservatives glommed onto Trump because they are tired of people like Boehner and Ryan dealing with Democrats. Trump promises to deal with Democrats. Do we have a Low Information Base?
Whats sad about the Trump Paradox is that we finally have a near-perfect candidate. Ted Cruz is no Bob Dole or John McCain or Mitt Romney. Hes not next in line. Hes principled. Hes conservative. Hell hes a Texan! But somehow the base has decided that Trump is better probably because Trump is seen as revenge" against the Mitch McConnells of the political world.

Electing Trump will certainly show McConnell and his sycophants.
Electing him will serve Mitt Romney right! Yes! I could not agree more. But Ill bet you Trump is either a one-term president or he gets impeached before the end of his first term. Call it a feeling.
If Im right which party will pick up the pieces? It will either be the Democratic Party or whatever emerges in the meantime to replace the GOP. Make no mistake; I am not crying for the loss of the Status Quo. Mitch and Paul and both Johns can take a flying leap for all I care. They promised to fight the liberals and abandoned us as soon as they got our votes.
I wanted to kick them upstairs and remake the Republican Party with the likes of Senator Cruz Senator Mike Lee and a few other principled conservatives. The idea of killing the Republican Party outright never really appealed to me.
Im trying to warm up to it.
