WOOLLEY: Diversity Needed for Tea Party to Grow

Today’s Logic Letter,
By Lynn Woolley

lynn_woolleyTexas Insider Report: AUSTIN, TexasDear Lojiks, Building 42003 at Fort Hood has been torn down. It is no longer considered an active crime scene. On November 5, 2009, a Muslim extremist named Nidal Malik Hasan murdered 13 born people, one unborn child, and shot more than 30 others. It was, the government tells us, workplace violence.

There is some disagreement about buildings such as this.

Luby’s Cafeteria, just up the street, was repurposed into a Chinese buffet in the years after George Hennard massacred people there. The Texas School Book Depository, the UT Tower, and Ford’s Theater all still stand.

Perhaps we need reminders of the evil that men do.

Whence the Tea Party:

Doyle McManus, writer for the LA Times, says the TP is growing up and learning from its mistakes. You can argue the fine points — but I do agree that political strategies can be refined.

Obama’s community organizing past have him amazing skills regarding the political destruction of his enemies. He’s not very adept at foreign policy (Syria,. Sudan, etc) but he’s great at demeaning Republicans.

Republican Lt. Gov Candidates 2014DAN PATRICK is persona non grata at the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. A front-page above-the-fold headline blares the “story” that a former employee of his was an illegal alien — at a time before such hiring was illegal.

This “scoop” was provided to the News by Jerry Patterson, a fellow candidate for Lt. Gov. who despises Patrick. The newspaper may be trying to skew the election and keep Patrick out of a runoff with Dewhurst.

These types of hit jobs by newspapers — even good ones like the News — seldom work.

MOLLY VS RALPH: It was entertaining last night, even as Molly White debated a Ralph Sheffield direct mail flyer. Here’s what I find interesting. The overflow crowd was largely in support of underdog White for a single reason — they don’t like House Speaker Joe Straus and Sheffield is in the Straus camp.

Nothing makes Sheffield red in the face like challenging him about Straus. Sheffield can make a compelling case for his support of Straus. He’s right that the system has worked for generations just as it does now. The problem is that Ralph did not engage the Tea Party crowd and tell them his side of the issue in a respectful way.

The Tea Party should be Ralph’s people. I don’t see him losing this race because he is a political insider who has more money than White. Ralph owns local TV band radio and Molly White has no broadcast schedules at all.

He was, however, the butt of a lot of cat-calls last night that he could have avoided by showing up. It’s a s shame that he didn’t.

Note to Alex Wukman: My last name has two l’s in it. The Temple Telegram proofreaders didn’t notice that it was spelled correctly in the photo caption, but wrong throughout the story. I have lived with this all my life. There should be a support group for people like me whose name is never spelled right.

Anyway, we moved the questions along, avoided long speeches from the floor and focused on Molly’s answers which is what I was hired — at great expense (not) — to do. Molly did well, and would learn rapidly should she get elected.

Take a stand!

Logically,
Lynn Woolley
