... and Fire Safety Private Property Rights
By State Rep. Paul Workman
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Things are moving at a breakneck pace as the 84th Session of the Texas Legislature enters its final month. The House has passed sweeping Sales & Margins Tax Cuts providing
$4.9 billion in tax relief to Texans and I laid out a bill in committee to
protect homeowners private property rights.
Many of the bills I have been working have now been voted out of committee and are on their way to the full House.
House Votes to Slash Taxes
The Texas House of Representatives voted to pass a monumental $4.9 billion tax cut package in the form of two separate bills that were both unanimously supported by the Texas House Republican Caucus Members.
- House Bill 31 reduces the sales tax rate from 6.25 to 5.95 creating the first ever state sales tax reduction in Texas history.
- House Bill 32 addresses burdensome business taxes by providing a 25 across the board Franchise Tax Cut.

In crafting this bold tax relief plan the House asserted its belief that the combination of these two measures provides tax relief to every taxpayer shrinks the size of government instead of shifting it and provides permanent relief that cant be taken away by local government or an appraiser.
HB 31 and HB 32 are now headed to the Senate for consideration.
Fire Safety & Private Property Rights
This week I introduced HB 1442 to the
House Business & Industry Committee. This bill provides that a county municipality or a homeowners association may not restrict the ability of a homeowner to remove a tree from his or her private property if the homeowner believes the tree poses a fire risk with limited exceptions.

This bill is about not only fire safety but also private property rights. I am hopeful to have this bill on the House floor soon.
As always I hope this is informative and helpful.
