width=65(SAN ANTONIO)--  The Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations chaired by Senator Leticia Van de Putte ( D-San Antonio).  The  meeting will be held on April 1 2008 at 1:30 p.m.  at the San Antonio City Council Chamber located at 103 Main Plaza.

Prior to the hearing senators and state representatives from Texas will tour the medical facilities serving wounded warriors at Fort Sam Houston including the Warrior and Family Support Center the Center for the Intrepid the Institute of Surgical Research and the Solider and Family Assistance Center.

Wounded Warrior Day is being held in an effort to honor the courageous warriors recovering and rehabilitating in San Antonio to bring attention to their needs and to find ways our state can offer support for them and their families.  Many of these service members are originally from out of state but spend long periods of time in San Antonio causing their families to relocate sometimes permanently.

At the hearing invited testimony will be heard on veteran reintegration issues including the occurrence of post traumatic stress disorder traumatic brain injury substance abuse problems and other family issues; the committee will take suggestions on ways to supplement and enhance related services for veterans and their families.  In addition the committee will review state services and benefits for injured service members and their families who are recovering from their injuries and rehabilitating in Texas.

Through the Veteran Affairs and Military Installations Committee I intend to work towards improving the quality of life of our military families and veterans said Senator Leticia Van de Putte.  We must honor those who valiantly serve our country.
