Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas After serving as Communications Director for Speaker Straus in the Texas Legislature Tracy is returning to her education reform roots and is committed to increasing awareness and support for public charter schools in Texas. Her experience in state and federal relations is a perfect fit said David Dunn Texas Charter Schools Association (TCSA) Executive Director while announcing Young as the new Vice President of Public & Government Affairs. We are thrilled to have Tracy join our dedicated team at the Texas Charter Schools Association and we look forward to welcoming her in the coming weeks.
Young has served as Director of Communications for Texas House Speaker Joe Straus since 2009. Before joining the Speakers staff she was Deputy Regional Representative for U. S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings based in Texas.
In 2005 Young was named Deputy Assistant Secretary for Communications & Outreach at the U.S. Department of Education where she directed the Strategic Communications team and Press Office
Prior to her work at there she served as Associate Director of Communications for President George W. Bush at the White House directing domestic policy communications.
Before the start of her public service Young worked with N.R.C.C. media relations on behalf of congressional candidates across the country. She also worked in the non-profit sector with college students university and community leaders to increase awareness and participation in volunteer service.
Young graduated with a bachelors degree in political science from Louisiana State University and is a native of Euless Texas.
The Texas Charter Schools Association is the statewide Association representing approximately 390 charter schools and educating more than 100000 students in every part of the state
An estimated 135000 Texas school children attend charter schools with an additional 56000 students currently on waiting lists.
