Zedler joined the United States Army where he attained the rank of First Lieutenant. After serving in the military Zedler went on to work in the health care industry. He was first elected to the Texas House in 2003 where he has served on the Criminal Jurisprudence and Government Efficiency & Reform Committees.

He received his Masters of Business Administration from Sam Houston State University in 1967.
House District 96 includes part of Tarrant County.
